The USS Milius (DDG -69 ) is a destroyer in the United States Navy and is one of the Arleigh Burke - class. It is named after the naval aviator Paul L. Milius, the seven crew members of his reconnaissance plane alighting allowed in the Vietnam War by parachute, by itself remained in his seat and the break-up of aircraft kept quiet.

History

DDG- 69 was added at Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1992 commissioned and placed there in August 1994 at Kiel. On 1 August 1995, the ship was launched and was baptized. After the final finishing and first tests the Milius was made official on November 23, 1996 in the U.S. Navy in service.

Your first assignment led the Milius 1998 into the Arabian Sea. In 2000, the ship moved into the western Pacific, a year later she took part in several exercises as well as the operation Noble Eagle. 2003 the ship served as the flagship for ship inspections ( Commander, Maritime Interception Forces) during Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was also involved in the launch of the BGM- 109 Tomahawk at targets in Iraq.

In 2005, the Milius part in Operation Unified Assistance, the relief mission after the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. 2007 she moved for seven and a half months as an escort for the USS Bonhomme Richard ( LHD -6) in the Persian Gulf. In summer 2008, the ship participated in the waters off Hawaii, RIMPAC maneuvers on. 2009 transferred to the destroyer of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower page (CVN -69) in the Indian Ocean. 2010 was followed by a solo tour in the Persian Gulf.
