The USS Mitscher (DDG -57 ) is a destroyer in the United States Navy, who belongs to the Arleigh Burke-class.

History

The Mitcher was given in December 1988 in order and placed in 1992 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Kiel. Launch took place in 1993 after a construction period of 15 months. Was christened the ship by Mrs. Elizabeth Ferguson after the patron saint Marc Andrew Mitscher, an Admiral of the Navy in the Pacific War. The ship is in the United States Navy was in December 1994.

The Mitscher moves to the Atlantic Fleet. Since the commissioning of the ship sailed several times as part of Carrier Aircraft Battle Groups in the Mediterranean and participated in numerous exercises in the Caribbean. The first mission began in 1996 with the USS Enterprise ( CVN -65) into the Mediterranean.

In 2001, the destroyer transferred to the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN -75) to the Mediterranean and laid among others in Algiers on. In the exercises Mitscher drove ( an export version of the Soviet Kilo class) in a battle group with the submarine USS Norfolk ( SSN -714 ) and the Algerian frigate RAIS KELLICH and the submarine El Hadj SLIMANE. In April 2003, the Mitscher transited the Suez Canal as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2007, the Mitcher participated in the UNITAS exercise; it formed a task force with the USS Pearl Harbor ( LSD - 52) USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG -58) and the Chilean Almirante Latorre CS (FFG 14). In 2008 she took part in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the Fleet Week Port Everglades. In early 2009 moved the ship to participate in the multinational exercise Taurus. Under the leadership of HMS Bulwark ( L15 ) of the Royal Navy, the exercise took place in the Mediterranean and Asia. 2011 drove the destroyer on the side of the USS George HW Bush ( CVN -77 ) in Arabic and European waters.
