Usson, Puy-de-Dôme

Usson is a commune with 269 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It belongs to the district Issoire and Canton Sauxillanges. Usson is located in the Regional Natural Park Livradois -Forez and is considered one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ) classified.

Geography

The village lies on a volcanic hill, which overlooks the Val d' Allier. The Nachbeargemeinden are: Saint -Jean -en- Val, Saint- Rémy -de- Chargnat, Sauxillanges and Varennes -sur- Usson.

History

The fortress was Usson 1585-1605 forced the whereabouts of Margaret of Valois, called La Reine Margot, the first wife of Henry IV. Richelieu had grind the impressive complex later.

Attractions

Worth seeing are the triple ramparts of the fortress, the Romanesque church of Saint- Maurice and houses from the 15th and 16th centuries.
