Blesle

Blesle is a commune with 624 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Haute- Loire in the Auvergne region. It lies in the district in the canton of Brioude Blesle whose capital it is. Blesle is as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ) classified.

Geographical location

The community of 29.8 square kilometers is located on 472-875 m above sea level at the mouths of Voireuze and Sianne in the Alagnon on the northwestern edge of the Haute -Loire, on the border of the Cantal and Puy -de- Dôme, 95 km of Le Puy, 28 km east of Brioude and 15 km from Massiac away.

History

The town developed around a Benedictine abbey of the 9th century. Towards the end of the 11th century reign over Besle the barons de Mercœur. In the 17th century, the abbey was transformed to the convent.
