Arrondissement of Brioude

The Brioude Arrondissement is an administrative district in the Haute- Loire in the Auvergne region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, established with the founding of the Haute -Loire is also a " district Brioude " which coincided essentially with the present arrondissement. The district was transferred to the establishment of the Arrondissements on 17 February 1800, the new arrondissements Brioude.

On 1 January 2007 the municipalities of the canton of Saugues Arrondissement Le Puy -en -Velay switched to the district Brioude.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the arrondissements Issoire and Ambert in the Puy -de- Dôme, in the east and southeast by the Arrondissement Le Puy -en -Velay, in the south of the Arrondissement Mende in Lozère (Languedoc -Roussillon ) and in the West to the arrondissement of Saint-Flour in the Cantal.
