Arrondissement of Le Puy-en-Velay

The Arrondissement Le Puy -en -Velay is an administrative district in the Haute- Loire in the Auvergne region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, established with the founding of the Haute -Loire is also a " district Le Puy ", which coincided essentially with the present arrondissement. The district was transferred to the establishment of the Arrondissements on 17 February 1800, the new Arrondissement Le Puy.

From September 10 1926 to June 1, 1942 included the area between the time-resolved arrondissements Yssingeaux for Arrondissement Le Puy -en -Velay.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Ambert in the Puy -de- Dôme, in the north- east by the district Yssingeaux, in the southeast of the arrondissement of Tournon -sur -Rhône and Largentière in the department of Ardèche (Rhône- Alpes), on the southwest by the district Mende in Lozère (Languedoc -Roussillon ) and to the west by the district Brioude.
