Uthukkottai (Tamil: ஊத்துக்கோட்டை Ūttukkōṭṭai [ ut ː ɯ ˌ k ː o ː ʈ ː ɛi̯ ]; Uthukottai also ) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu with its 10,000 inhabitants ( 2001 census).

Uthukkottai is about 60 kilometers northwest of Chennai (Madras ) and 70 kilometers southeast of Tirupati in the district of Tiruvallur directly on the border of the neighboring Federal State of Andhra Pradesh. The city is the capital of taluks Uthukkottai. By Uthukkottai the river Arani Nadi flows. Also, here crosses the canal that connects the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh with the Poondi lake in Tamil Nadu and Chennai as supplied with drinking water from the Krishna River, the State Border.

Only two kilometers west of Uthukkottai, but beyond the border of Andhra Pradesh, located in the village Suruttapalli to the god Shiva consecrated Pallikondeswarar Temple. He has to have the special feature that the God is shown here in a lying position - one for Shiva highly unusual representation, which is usually found in Vishnu.
