Václav Ježek

Vaclav Jezek ( born October 1, 1923 in Zvolen; † August 27, 1995 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak football player and coach.

Playing career

Vaclav Jezek never played for bigger clubs and never in the first league. His stations were Slavia Banská Bystrica, SK Jaroměř, SK Dvůr Králové, Úpice Spartak Spartak Hradec Králové, Střela Milovice, Dukla Brno and Liberec Tatran.

Coaching career

He began as a youth coach at Tatran Liberec, then he held this position at Jiskra Liberec. In Lokomotiva Ceska Lipa he coached the adult team. He made a name from 1959 to 1963 as a youth coach at Dukla Prague. From 1963 to 1969 he was head coach at Sparta Prague and won in 1965 and 1967, the Championship, the 1964 Czechoslovak Cup and the Mitropa Cup. Then he oversaw from 1969 to 1972 the team ADO Den Haag.

He was coach of the Czechoslovakian national soccer team, the 1976 won the European Championship in Yugoslavia. In 1978 he again went to Holland, this time to Feyenoord, where he remained until 1982. Then Jezek took over for two years again Sparta Prague. Between 1984 and 1986 he was a coach at FC Zurich and then again for two seasons with Sparta Prague. From 1988 to 1990 he worked as an assistant coach with the national team.

In 1991 he went surprisingly to the greatest rival of Sparta, Slavia Prague, where he coached the team along with Vlastimil Petržela. He took over in 1993 for six games, the selection of the Czechs and Slovaks failed with her but in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 1994 in the USA.

  • Vaclav Jezek was elected in 2001 to the Czech Republic coach of the 20th century.
