Václav Svěrkoš [ svjɛrkɔ̹ʃ ] ( born 1 November 1983 in Třinec, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech football player.
Career
In the club
Svěrkoš began at the age of seven years at the VP Frýdek- Místek playing football. As a 14 -year-old, he moved in 1998 to Banik Ostrava. 2003, the offensive player went for 1.5 million euros to Borussia Mönchengladbach.
During the winter break of the season 2005/ 06 he moved on loan to Hertha BSC, but he remained there successful and goalless. On 1 July 2006 he returned to Mönchengladbach. When Borussia it but he failed again to earn a regular place.
In January 2007 he was loaned for half a year at Austria Wien. With the Austrians, he won the OFB Cup. For the season 2007/ 08 Svěrkoš moved to his former club Banik Ostrava. With 15 goals, he was top scorer of the Gambrinus League 2007/08. From 2009, he plays in the French Ligue 1 for FC Sochaux. In January 2011 he was loaned for six months to June 2011 to Panionios Athens. For the 2011/12 season Svěrkoš changes again back to Banik Ostrava, he signed there a 5- year contract.
In the National Team
Svěrkoš went through all the national teams of the Czech Republic, of the U-15 juniors up to the U- 21 team, where he was team captain. In the senior national team, the striker made his debut on 27 May 2008 in the match against Lithuania. In the second half, he played for the exchanged Milan Baroš. Svěrkoš scored on 7 June 2008 in the 1-0 victory against Switzerland in Basel 's first goal of the European Football Championship 2008.
Private
In April 2008, his partner Jana gave birth to a daughter.
