Vadu Izei

Vadu Izei ( until 1968 Vad, Hungarian Farkasrév ) is a town in Maramureş County in Romania. To her apart from the actual place Vadu Izei also the village of Valea Stejarului heard (Hungarian Disznópataka ).

Location

Vadu Izei is located about 5 km south-east of the city Sighetu Marmaţiei at the mouth of the river Mara in the Iza.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1383. He was for several centuries part of the county of Maramures and thus of the Kingdom of Hungary. After the First World War he came to Romania.

Population

Since the official Census in 1850, the community was predominantly inhabited by Romanians. Until the Second World War, Jews the largest minority (about 5-10 percent). Meanwhile, the residents of Vadu Izei are almost exclusively Romanians; few describe themselves as Hungarians, Roma and Ukrainian. The same applies to the 1843 eingemeindeten place Valea Stejarului.

Vadu Izei is located on the National Road (drum National) DN 18, which runs from Baia Mare to Iacobeni. The nearest train station is located about 7 km north- west of the town on the railway line Sighetu Marmaţiei - Ivano -Frankivsk.
