Vahlkampfiidae

The Vahlkampfiidae were a taxon of protists and the most comprehensive group of Heterolobosea.

Features

Vahlkampfiidae show up on types of Vahlkampfia to always flagellated stages, but do not form fruiting bodies. The (up to when members of the genus Percolomonas ) always present amoeboid stages are usually mononuclear and cylindrical in shape. The nucleoli remain intact during mitosis, but form two poles, the spindle is intranuclear. Cysts are common.

System

The Vahlkampfiidae was the most extensive of the three groups of Heterolobosea. In addition to some monotypic genera they contained, among other things, the genera Naegleria (~ 50 partially pathogenic species), Tetramitus (~ 15) and Vahlkampfia (~ 5).

Later they took with their classifications be sister, the Acrasidae and Gruberellidae, along to the group of Tetramitia.
