Vajnory Airport

The airfield Vajnory ( ICAO code: LZVB; Slovak Letisko Vajnory ) was an airfield in the Bratislava district Vajnory. It was closed in 2007.

History

The civil air transport in Bratislava began on 29 October 1923, when the first plane of the CSA from Prague landed on the airfield. Airlines flying to foreign countries were added in 1928. A new era began in 1951, when the new, not far distant Bratislava airport (near Ivanka pri Dunaji ) was opened. In the socialist era, the airfield both of the paramilitary organization Zväzarm ( Czech Svazarm ) was, as also used by the state-owned enterprise Slov -Air. From 1990 to 2004, the operator of the Aero Club Bratislava, then acquired the operator of the Bratislava airport the airfield and this has sold shortly thereafter. The airfield was closed on 7 February 2007; a developer is planning a new residential zone in the value of 863 million euros.

The Slovak Milan Rastislav Stefanik politician died on May 4, 1919 on approach to the airfield was not yet official, as his Caproni about 33 crashed near the town of Ivanka pri Dunaji.
