Valdostan Union

The Union Valdôtaine (French Association for the Valle d'Aosta ) is a regional party in Italy.

She reigns in the region of Aosta Valley and is currently represented by a senator in the Italian Parliament.

At European level, the party was affiliated to the Alliance European Free Alliance, but was excluded from the 2007.

The Union Valdotaine, a political movement relied on the principles of global federalism, continues as a goal to ensure the development of ethnic and linguistic property of the people of the Aosta Valley; to serve the cultural, political, social and economic interests; to promote the cooperation between the ethnic communities.

Formation

The party was founded on September 13, 1945, a day after the Italian government under Ferruccio Parri had adopted two decrees, the Aosta Valley conceded first autonomy rights. The Union saw itself as a collective movement of autonomist politicians, who appealed to the political ideal of the slain anti-fascists Emile Chanoux. Specifically, they wanted to achieve an extension of the still very modest autonomy as well as their international protection.

On October 19, the party has been authorized by the Allied occupiers.

The provisional executive committee were Albert Deffeyes, Lino Binel, Paul Alphonse Farinet, Ernest Page, Victor Rosset, Major Joconde Stévenin, Robert Berton, Amédée Berthod, Félix Ollietti, Severino Caveri, Maria Ida Viglino, Flavien Arbaney and Aimé Berthet. Severino Caveri was appointed the first chairman, Albert Deffeyes to his office representative.

1946 organized the party large-scale demonstrations in Pont -Saint- Martin, Aosta Morgex and to underpin the autonomy aspirations.

The years 1949-1966

At the first regional elections in 1949, the Union Valdotaine came along with the Christian Democrats. The common list reached 43.6 %, was due to the majority suffrage 28 of 35 seats. Severino Caveri was elected by the Regional Council to the President of the Regional Government. The alliance failed, however, and in the subsequent elections in 1954, the Union was only able to take a seat on the Regional Council for yourself.

Thereafter, the Union Valdotaine moved increasingly to the left political spectrum added, and was able to win in the parliamentary elections in 1958, both the Senate and the Chamber headquarters of the small region of its own. 1966 broke the coalition, the Socialists switched sides and with the Christian Democrats received an alliance.

Crisis and spin-offs

Thereafter, the Union Valdôtaine plunged into a deep crisis. First, the conservative wing broke away and founded the Rassemblement Valdôtain (RV, Clash of the Aosta Valley ), in the meantime Mouvement autonomiste Valdôtain called himself and the Italian Christian Democrats in the Regional forged a coalition. 1973 also left the social democratic wing of the Union to found the Union Valdôtaine progressiste (RRP).
