Valentina Cortese

Valentina Cortese ( born January 1, 1923 in Milan, Lombardy, Italy) is an Italian film actress.

Life

To Corteses famous roles include those of Herodias in Franco Zeffirelli's Bible film Jesus of Nazareth in 1977 and the mother of Francis of Assisi in Zeffirelli's film drama Brother Sun, Sister Moon by 1972. At the movies she had also known appearances as a diva in The American Night and as exalted mother in Le bateau sur John McEnerys l'herbe.

Also, the epic film Barabbas of 1962 and the drama Juliet of the Spirits from 1965 are among her films.

For her role in The American Night 1973 Valentina Cortese not only won the British Film Award, but was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award. At the Academy Awards in 1975, she was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

Valentina Cortese 1951-1960 married to the American actor Richard Basehart. The marriage went forth a son.
