Valeri Karpin Georgijewitsch (Russian Валерий Георгиевич Карпин; Estonian Valeri Karpin, born February 2, 1969 in Narva, Estonian SSR ) is a retired Russian football player and current football coach and sporting director.

He is now based in Vigo and is a businessman and sponsor of several sports teams. In 2003, Karpin accordance with the voting principle Estonian citizenship and renounced in return to the Russian.

On the club level Karpin played for Fakel Voronezh ( 1989), Spartak Moscow ( 1990-1994), Real Sociedad (1994-1996 and 2002-2005), FC Valencia (1996-1997) and Celta Vigo ( 1997-2002). 1999 Karpin was voted Russian Player of the Year. His career end, he announced in summer 2005.

Also on the international stage Karpin has a big name after he had once been run for the CIS without scoring a goal, he succeeded in 72 games for Russia between 1992 and 2003 17 times, including the first goal for independent Russia. His big tournaments were the World Championships in 1994 and 2002 and the European Championship in 1996.

2007 Karpin became the co- namesake of the cycling team Karpin - Galicia.

On 8 August 2008, Karpin general manager of Spartak Moscow. On 15 April 2009 he dismissed coach Michael Laudrup and took office as acting. 18 April 2011 Karpin joined his hand back as manager of the club, but his position as sports director he retained for the time being continue to hold. However, he reconsidered his decision and retired after the 2011/12 season from office. His successor was the Spaniard Unai Emery. After this was released in November 2012, Karpin took over the post of head coach on an interim basis initially, later fixed. On March 18, 2014 he was suspended after a series of defeats.
