Valser Rhine

Rhine Vals in Vals

The Vals Rhine is a river in the headwaters of the River Rhine in the canton of Grisons.

Course

The river originates from the Länta and the gray horn glaciers at the northern foot of the Rheinwaldhorn and flows through the first Läntatal before it is dammed in Zervreilasee. When former village Zervreila resulted from the right horn and Canal stream in the still ungestauten Vals Rhine. These streams are now also tributaries of the lake. Before the dam opens to the right of the south of the Finsterbach in the reservoir. Below the Zervreilasees the Vals Rhine flows through the Vals Valley and the community of Vals. Before Vals Platz, the direction finder creek flows into the river. Behind the village joins the right side of the Tomülbach from Tomülpass Coming added. He then flows on to St. Martin GR, until he then opens at Uors in here naturally much lower water content Glenner ( Glogn ), which flows, in turn, after ten kilometers in the Anterior Rhine.

Use

From the Zervreilasee most of its water supply is diverted into a pressure line of the power plants Zervreila ( KWZ ), which initially leads to a power station in Safiental and then through the mountain to the Heinz plant Roth fountain in Domleschg.

The Vals Rhine has many rapids and waterfalls and is therefore popular with canoeists.
