History

As students of New York's Columbia University Ezra Koenig and Chris Tomson came first as comedy rap duo under the name L' Homme Run before it with their fellow students Rostam Batmanglij and Chris Baio formed the current lineup of the band on 6 February 2006 and named after the title of a film, took up the king with friends.

About the blogosphere Vampire Weekend soon came to greater prominence and drew attention to himself by a concert review in the New York Times. In 2007, the band recorded their self-titled debut album and ended up with Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa a first singles success, which was chosen by Rolling Stone at number 67 of the 100 best songs of 2007. The album was represented in the spring of 2008, several weeks on the U.S. album charts and was enthusiastically received by the music press for the most part. On 8 January 2010, the second album of the band, Contra appeared. Since Contra

On July 22, 2011 Ezra Koenig and the other members of the band maintained a Ustream session with their fans. The band announced, among other things, that after the Music to Know Festival in August no further appearances were planned. The band also said that after this session she wanted to focus more on a new album. With respect to the last two single releases Rostam confirmed that Vampire Weekend have begun work on new songs for a successor to Contra.

During their break, the individual members of various individual projects involved. Bassist Chris Baio occurred in DJ sets, initially participated in Somebody Up There Likes Me, a film by Bob Byingtom. Rostam Batmanglij was busy with recordings of solo material and produced numbers for Das Racist. Ezra Koenig worked with Major Lazer.

On 11 November 2011 were confirmed, Vampire Weekend is in the Excello Studios in Brooklyn, NYC to write back new songs for their third album and record it. The album was provisionally named LP3.

On April 26, 2012, Rolling Stone reported, the new album could already come the end of the year on the market. "We are crowded with tons of material. It would be nice, you could bring out new album later this year. For us, there has been, however, no way to publish something new. Maybe it would help us, we could take it a little more time, "said Koenig in its opinion.

On 12 July 2012, the band presented a new song that temporarily the title New Song No. Should wear 2. During an appearance at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago singer Koenig talked about good previous work on the new album, saying that it would appear soon. On 31 October 2012, The New Song No.. 2 officially presented under the title Unbelievers.

In an interview for the February issue of the magazine Q 2013 Koenig described the new album as " dark and lively " and "very much a last part of a trilogy like". The new plant has been included in the New York studio of Ariel Rechtshaid that the album has also co-produced. The album Modern Vampires of the City was published in May 2013. It was able to position his predecessor at the top of the U.S. charts as already and was named by the music magazine Rolling Stone for best album of the year in December. At the Grammy Awards in 2014, it received the award for best alternative album.
