Van Nest Polglase

Van Nest Polglase ( born August 25, 1898 in New York City; † December 20, 1968 in Los Angeles ) was an American art director. He was responsible for the equipment of the Fred Astaire - Ginger Rogers films at RKO Pictures. He was nominated six times for an Academy Award for Best Production Design.

Career

Van Nest Polglase first worked as an interior designer in New York and Havana, before he as art director at Famous Players - Lasky, one of the founding companies of the later Paramount Pictures, began his career in film in 1919. After a stopover at MGM changed Nest Polglase at the instigation of David O. Selznick in 1932 as head of the art direction department at RKO Pictures. There he was responsible for the equipment of over 330 films.

Throughout his career he was six times nominated for an Oscar / Best Art Direction, but not to win it. He received the nominations for his work on:
