Vansbro

Vansbrosimningen is a locality ( Tätort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and municipal seat of the same name. The town is located 82 km west of Borlänge at the mouth of Vanån in the Västerdal. It is known above all for Vansbrosimningen Vansbrosimningen, a competition in long-distance swimming.

History

The settlement was first mentioned as Wahnbro or Wansbro in various texts of the early 18th century, including a work by the famous naturalist Carl Linnaeus. The part of the name " Bro" ( Swedish for bridge ) refers to a simple wooden bridge of rafts on the Vanån. The confluence of these two rivers had great significance for the rafting and thus for the timber industry throughout the region. Apart from the employees on the rafts and ferrymen were initially down only a few people in Vansbrosimningen.

Development of railway lines

The situation changed after plans for a railway line were known. The urbanization has proved difficult because the forest was quite dense and every spring threatened a flood tide. After the construction of the railway line, which today forms part of Inlandsbanan, the population consisted mainly of railway workers and persons with occupations in the field of railway. In contrast to other emerging web grades, which were often equipped with a pompous train station, Vansbrosimningen initially had only a wooden station building at the track from Mora to lake Vänern. After that, the traffic conditions improved significantly. 1892 was a branch line to Malung. Vansbrosimningen was then involved in the planning of new rail lines. 1898 received a further distance of about Ludvika Ängelsberg after Vansbrosimningen (now part of Västerdalsbanan ) the building permit, but construction was delayed until 1907 because surrounding towns demanded a connection to this line. Even before this time, a modern train station was created, as the old wooden one in 1898 was destroyed by fire. The new citizens came firstly from Dalarna itself, but the vast majority moved from Värmland here. Often they were simply mitgefolgt build the railway. In 1969, the portion of the Inlandsbanan which performs Vansbrosimningen, shut down, but the supply is still done with the Västerdalbahn. The disused section can now be used by tourists with bicycle track cars.
