The Vanuatu national football team is the selection team of the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu.
Vanuatu is a member of the world football governing body FIFA and the OFC Regional Association since 1988. Thus, it takes part in the qualifying matches to soccer 's World Cup and the OFC Nations Cup.
Even as a national of the New Hebrides, as Vanuatu was known before its independence in 1980, was reached in 1973 with the OFC Nations Cup fourth place. Fourth places was reached in 2000, 2002 and 2008.
For a sensation the national Vanuatu made in the qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany, as they defeated New Zealand 4-2. New Zealand was thus behind Australia and the Solomon Islands only third in the qualifying group and thus missed the playoff to take part in the World Cup.
