Väsby IK

Väsby IK is a Swedish sports club from Upplands Väsby. The club is best known for its football and ice hockey teams that are now merged into independent associations.

History

Väsby IK was founded in 1924 as a football and track and field club. Soon after, the club also divisions for boxing, cycling, orienteering and a Skisektion emerged.

Football

The football team of the club first played unterklassig. In 1964 the team promotion to the third-rate Division 3 Östra Svealand. Here, the team established in the middle of the league and fluctuated between front and rear seats, without being able to intervene in the promotion race, but are rarely drawn into the relegation battle. After ten seasons, the team could not hold the class and had to descend into the Viertklassigkeit together with Gustavsbergs IF and Upsala IF.

Although the team Väsby IK was classified directly in the struggle for the revival, but was only after three years as a squadron won the Division 4 Stockholm Uppland accomplish the return to the third tier at the end of the season 1976. After the immediate re- descent, it took until 1983 before again reached the summit. This time managed to avoid relegation and the club survived 1986, a league reform in the third division. In the following season was the team relay champion and rose the first time in the second division.

To Väsby IK was in the second division right in the relegation battle again, but was able to create the league before Skellefteå AIK and IFK Mora. In the following years, the team established at the rear of the league. 1992 the team finished in the spring series only the last place in the fall and missed the league. In the third league season in 1993 the team was second behind Season Visby IF Gute, but failed in the promotion round to Stenungsunds IF. The following year succeeded with only one defeat this season as season winner ahead of Nacka FF to rise again.

Väsby IK finished at the end of the second division season 1995 the relegation zone. After midfield places in the next two years, in 1998 succeeded the runner-up behind IF Brommapojkarna, but in the promotion round the club failed to Gefle IF. In the following season the team remained without defeat of the season and qualified again for the promotion round. After two defeats against FC Café Opera, the team ended there, however, only the second place and missed again the resurgence. In the following years, the club managed to multiply a place in the promotion round, but failed to land BK, Friska Viljor FC and Ljungskile SK.

After the end of the 2004 merged Väsby IK with FC Café Opera to Väsby United.

Hockey

1956 was a hockey department at Väsby IK. In 1965, the team was relegated to the second division for the first time on, in which they established themselves in the sequence. In spring 1987, the team reached the summit for the first time in the Elitserien, from which they descended again after one season. The department made ​​under the name Väsby IK Hockey independently by the club.
