Vashti Murphy McKenzie

Life

After her schooling McKenzie studied journalism and received the bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland. Later she passed the examinations for the Master of Theology at Howard University and a doctorate in Ohio at the United Theological Seminary. 1984 McKenzie was ordained deaconess and pastor of a church in Chesapeake City, Maryland appointed. After that, she was a pastor in Baltimore at the Payne Memorial AME Church. In 2000, McKenzie was elected bishop and was also the first woman as a bishop in the AME Church. As a writer McKenzie wrote several books with theological content, especially the ordination of women. McKenzie is married to Stan McKenzie.
