Vasile Tarlev

Petru Vasile Tarlev ( born October 6, 1963) is a Moldovan politician of Bulgarian descent and was from 2001 to 2008 head of government of Moldova.

During his studies Tarlev dedicated to the engineering and graduated with the degree of Diplom-Ingenieur from. He became a member of the Communist Party ( PCRM ) and received a seat on the newly formed parliament. On 15 April 2001, he stood as a candidate in the first election and was elected prime Ministru ( head of government) with 75 of 101 votes in Parliament. The result was confirmed in a second round of voting on April 19.

After the 2005 parliamentary elections Vasile Tarlev was again confirmed in his office. On 20 March 2008, he resigned from his post. President Vladimir Voronin had previously exerted pressure on Tarlev to move him to take this step. Voronin said he wanted to make " new forces " to power. As the successor he suggested the former Deputy Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii.

Tarlev consequently left the ruling Communists and joined the Uniunea centrista din Moldova ( UCM Abbr; German Union center of Moldova ), its president, he was elected in September 2008. In the elections of April 2009, the UCM missed with just 2.8 % of the vote clearly into parliament. In the early elections in July 2009, the candidates of the UCM occur on the list of Partidul Social Democrat ( PSD, Social Democratic Party ) to. Tarlev occupies second place after the list PSD chairman Dumitru Braghis.
