Västerhaninge

Västerhaninge is a locality ( Tätort ) with 15,000 inhabitants in the Swedish municipality of Haninge in Stockholm County.

Västerhaninge located in the southern part of the municipality and is bordered to the north by the forest and parkland Hanveden, in the east only separated by an area with sports facilities at Jordbro, on the south by a larger agricultural landscape and to the west by a hilly region with Mount Jungfruberget. The distance to the main town of hands is about 6 km. Västerhaninge is separated by the railway line into a northern and a southern part.

Local structure

Much of the residential areas emerged in the 1960s and 1980s. The oldest residential buildings date from the 1940s. The structure is mixed from single family homes, multi-family homes and townhouses. Due to strong housing shortage in the Stockholm area several development areas are planned. To supply exist a modern business center at the train station and several shops in the various districts.

Industry is concentrated mainly in the industrial park Haga, where mainly craft and manufacturing industry are located.

In the village is Sweden's only Mormon temple. It was inaugurated in 1985 and is named Sista dagars heligas temple i Stockholm.

Sports

In Västerhaninge there are several sports fields, an indoor ice rink, lighted jogging and cross-country round course and various equestrian facilities. Also adjoining the village forest area Hanveden offers a variety of opportunities for physical activity and recreation.

Traffic

Västerhaninge is connected through the Pendeltåg with Nynäshamn Stockholm and the ferry terminal. In the rush hour every hour ride to Stockholm four lanes and two after Nynäshamn. The journey takes about 30 minutes each.

Directly at the railway station there is a bus station serving the villages of the area from which several lines.

The road network of the village has been expanded in recent years, including with roundabouts and the transformation of roads to avenues. Parallel to Västerhaninge leads past the Reichsweg 73 which receives a highway- like appearance today.
