Vazgen Manukyan

Vazgen Manukyan Mikaelowitsch (Armenian Վազգեն Միքայելի Մանուկյան, Russian Вазген Микаэлович Манукян; born February 13, 1946 in Leninakan, Armenian SSR) is an Armenian politician who has a PhD in mathematics and physics. He is Chairman of the Party National Democratic Union.

The Armenian Apostolic Christian was arrested in Moscow in 1988, because he was a member of the Karabakh Committee, and spent six months in jail. On August 13, 1990, he became Prime Minister of the Armenian SSR. After Armenia became independent in 1991, he resigned on 22 November 1991. From 1992 to 1993 Manukyan was defense minister. He was elected three times to the parliament, and entered 1996, 1998, 2003 and 2008 for the presidential election.

Vazgen Manukyan is married and father of three children.
