Veckenstedt is a town in the northern Harz in the district of Harz in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geographical Location

The village lies on the Ilse about five kilometers in a straight line north-east of Ilse castle.

History

In the Middle Ages Veckenstedt was in Harzgau. The Lords of Veckenstedt whose most powerful member of Walo II was here possessed goods.

On January 1, 2010, the formerly independent communities Veckenstedt, Danstedt, Heudeber, Langeln, Schmatzfeld, Stapelburg, Abbenrode and aquatic life merged to form a unified community Nordharz.

The coat of arms was approved on 7 May 2009 by the county.
