Vectron (locomotive)

The Siemens Vectron is a vehicle from the family of locomotives of the German rail vehicle manufacturer Siemens Rail Systems, which replaces the Euro Sprinter or its further development, Siemens ES 2007. On this platform arise both electric locomotives, as well as - in contrast to its predecessor - Diesel. As class labels ( 6) 191 to 193 provided for the electrical and (1 ) 247 for the diesel-electric version and already in use for the various Vectron variants.

History

Siemens Mobility ( formerly Siemens Transportation Systems ), the new product family Vectron presented on 29 June 2010 in Wegberg -Wildenrath as successors of the Euro Sprinter platform, at this time, but only as an electric locomotive. At InnoTrans 2010, Siemens has introduced a diesel variant as Vectron DE.

Technical Description

The outer design of the Vectron locomotives differs only slightly from that of the Siemens ES 2007; especially the head module is taken up on some detail changes. Inside, however, is built completely different from the new type. The engine room has, in contrast to the Bombardier TRAXX a straight aisle, all the components have a permanent place on its sides. The wheelsets are driven by spring-loaded pinion hollow shafts.

The operating mass of the four-axle locomotive is 80-87 tons. It can be equipped with all needed in Europe national train control systems and ETCS.

First of four electric versions and a diesel-electric version of the locomotive platform have been developed without a customer order. The families are:

  • A: Vectron MS, multi-system locomotive with 6400 kW of power and 200 km / h
  • B: Vectron AC, Wechselstromlok with 6400 kW of power and 160 or 200 km / h
  • C: Vectron DC, Gleichstromlok with 5200 kW of power and 160 or 200 km / h
  • D: Vectron AC, Wechselstromlok with 5600 kW of power and 160 km / h
  • G: Vectron DE, diesel-electric locomotive

The Vectron DE is the diesel locomotive of the product family. It has two side passages and is about one meter longer than the electric locomotive. The 16- cylinder V- engine from MTU complies with its emission levels already the EU standard IIIB.

Approvals

End of June 2012 was the type of locomotive in Romania a permanent authorization, which since September 2012 is present in the DC version also for Poland. The Federal Railway Authority granted, as part of a cross-acceptance process, the approval for the AC variant in Germany on December 21, 2012. Nearby is an authorization for Sweden before.

The vehicles ordered variant B are provided for cross- border traffic between Germany, Austria and Hungary. In addition to the national train protection systems all vehicles with the European Train Control System European Train Control System ( ETCS) will be equipped. The locomotives have a maximum power of 6,400 kW and a top speed of 160 km / h Some of the locomotives will be equipped with a preliminary equipment that allows a very simple conversion into a multi-system locomotive at a later date. The wiring for other train control systems is also already integrated. The first locomotives are passed in the year 2013 in the Siemens locomotive plant in Krauss -Maffei - Strasse in Munich - Allach to the customer.

The Austrian company Cargo Service ( CargoServ ) received a locomotive. After commissioning on March 2, 2014 this is the first locomotive of this series on the Austrian route network.
