The fort built by them was the first time in 1377 in the division of the Duchy of Opava mentioned by name, as Heraltitz was incorporated into the Duchy of Hunters Village. For its owners, among other things, included the Lords of Drahotusch (z Drahotuš ) of in-fill and the Birka of Nassiedel ( Birka z Násile ). 1522 came Heraltitz to Bernard of Vrbno, who had in 1525 entered in the Opava country charts with the consent of the Bohemian King Ludwig II. End of the 16th century built the Count Vrbno the castle to a Renaissance castle. Stefan from Vrbno sold in 1600 to United Herlitz Sigismund Younger Sedlnitzky of Choltitz from which it 1611 Bohuslaw Pawlowsky of Pawlowitz ( Bohuslav Pavlovský z Pavlovic ) passed and after his death by Wenzel Freiherr was acquired by Oppersdorf. His son Wenzel Ignaz Großherrlitz sold in 1668 to the Moravian provincial judge Colonel Georg Stefan of Vrbno. He caused about 1676 the Baroque reconstruction of the castle. In 1694 he sold the dominion United Herlitz the Cistercian monastery Velehrad. During his reign a terrace -like flower and fruit tree garden and a pheasant was created in 1720 at the castle. 1767 sold the monastery the rule of United Herlitz due to a pre-emption turn to the Counts of Vrbno. Eugene of Vrbno prompted a redesign of the castle, with many halls were decorated with rococo stucco. Beginning of the 19th century orangery was built and created in 1830 an English park with exotic trees. 1840, the family acquired Mitrowsky of Nemischl the rule United Herlitz, 1849 Wilhelmine Kinsky.

From 1899 until the expropriation of 1945 were the castle and the related goods in the possession of Count Bellegarde, who built a chapel in the Gothic Revival style in 1900.
