Veľké Pole

Veľké Pole ( German Hochwies or high meadows, Hungarian Pálosnagymező - to 1882 Velkapola ) is a municipality in Okres Žarnovica in the western central Slovakia.

It is about 15 kilometers from the city Partizánske and 15 to 20 kilometers from the city Žarnovica and is located on a ridge between the Tribetzgebirge ( Tríbeč ) and the bird Mountains ( Vtáčnik ). The village was mentioned in 1332 for the first time in writing as de Prato. Not far from Veľké poles lie the ruins of Brezová, a deserted village of Carpathian Germans, who were settled in the time of the mining boom in the area of Banská Štiavnica the time of Maria Theresa.
