Veľký Lapáš

Velky Lapas (Hungarian Nagylapás ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1127 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Nitra, a part of the Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the western part of the hill country Žitavská pahorkatina ( part of the Danube 's hill country ) on the middle course of the river Kadan. The little more than 8.1 km ² municipal area is deforested and covered with black and brown soils. The center is located at an altitude of 160 m nm and is nine kilometers away from Nitra.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1113 in the Zoborská documents as Lapas and the associated parish in 1156 writing. The village belonged to Zoborská abbey and the castle Neutra. In the 13th century it came to the possession of the landed gentry. In the 18th century there were several uprisings against the owners. 1828 are listed 67 houses and 466 inhabitants. 1882 burned the village completely. As before, the population lives mainly on agriculture.

1960-1990 Velky Lapas was merged together with the neighboring village of Maly Lapas in the community Lapas.
