Geographical location

Vellberg is located on the Buhler between the county town of Schwäbisch Hall and the city of Crailsheim. The city has a share in the natural areas Swabian- Franconian Forest and Hohenlohe -Haller level.

History

The family of Vellberg is first mentioned in a deed dated 3 May 1102 Henry of Vellberg. In 1500 Emperor Maximilian granted market rights for Vellberg and already six years later the city received its town charter granted. A first fire of October 21, 1901 followed by a second city fire on 26 September 1902. Both probably caused by arson.

On 1 January 1972 Großaltdorf was incorporated.
