Veneration of Mary in Roman Catholicism

Our Lady (abbreviated ULF, in compound spellings of Our Lady ) is a name for Mary, the mother of Jesus. This woman has the old meaning of " mistress " ( Frouwe was fro the counterpart of "Lord", see Corpus Christi). At Our Lady or Our Lady, no majority is meant, it is rather an old inflection of woman.

Our Lady is part of the invocation of the Holy Mother, the name of grace images and Marian feasts and of the name of religious communities, societies of apostolic life, fraternities, religious associations, institutions, organizations and institutions, which are subject to the patronage of the Blessed Mother. Many churches are dedicated to the Patronage of the Mother of God and therefore bear the name of Our Lady, or the vernacular Liebfrauen behalf.

There are about 150 religious communities for women who wear our Lady in her name. Often this is accompanied by a local or an honorary title, such as " Our Lady of Fatima " or " Our Lady of the Angels ".
