Life

Childhood and youth

Vern Pullens probably grew up in rural Bogalusa, Louisiana. Other sources Pullens said to have been born in Picayne, Mississippi.

Career

In the week Pullens worked as a bricklayer, on the weekends he performed with a band and played in honky tonks. By B. J. Johnson came Pullens in contact with a small record label and in the summer of 1956 he was invited by Bennie Hess, owner of the label Spade Records, to Houston. Hess took Pullens under contract and arranged a session on September 27, 1956 in Houston, Texas. Bop Crazy Baby / It's My Life and Mama Do not Allow No Boppin 'Tonight were recorded in the studio of the radio station KTRH with local musicians. To date, these recordings are considered classic rockabilly tracks. In early 1957, published Spade a Country single by Pullens, which was granted only successes in Texas and only average rated by Billboard. Also Pullens ' third and last time being Spade single was granted no place in the charts.

In the next few years Pullens continued his career and played in big Howdy, Stop and D Records plates a. Even with his own label, Sun Down Records, he released his pieces; his most successful title reached number 20 on the Billboard charts.

After Pullens had lived a short time in Nashville, Tennessee in the 1960s, he moved back to Mississippi.
