Vértes Mountains

The Vertes Mountains [ ve ː rtɛʃ ], on German label Mountains, is a mountain range in the north-western Hungary with heights up to 500 m, in the region around the city Tatabánya and Oroszlany. The mountain range is one of the Hungarian Middle Mountains, including the eastern location Gerecse include ( up to 630 m) and the western location Bakony Forest.

In the valleys on the southern slopes of the Vértes a nature reserve has been established for some rare mountain plants. In the Esterházy cave on the mountain above the town Csákvár was found prehistoric animal bones and remains of dreihufigen Urpferdes from before about 10 million years ago.

In the surroundings there are some rocky hilltops with castle ruins on their heights. The geological- botanical trail between Csákvár and Gánt leads over 3-4 km above Haraszt mountain and through the colic Valley. In Gánt bauxite is mined; remarkably red, lifeless acting bottom of the bauxite mine. In nearby Vérteskozma old farmhouses can be visited.
