History

The bastide of Vianne was founded in 1284 by a Pareage Treaty, which was between Jourdain de l' Isle and the Seneschal of Guyenne, Jean de Grailly, the representative of the King of England, Edward I, closed. The Bastide was built instead of the village Villelongue, of which the church of Notre -Dame remained. The new city received its fortifications at the beginning of the 14th century, before the start of the Hundred Years War. They include a wall of 1.2 km length, with four square towers and a few round towers ( two of which are preserved). The city's history has been marked by several skirmishes with French and English battles ( battles of 1342 ).
