Vicente Rodríguez Guillén (born 16 July 1981 in Valencia ), known as Vicente, is a Spanish footballer. Vicente played 2000-2011 for FC Valencia.

Vicente is characterized above all by its edge runs and dribbles, but also by game intelligence.

Career

Vicente grew up with his father Vicente, his mother, Fina, his older sister Laura and his younger brother Alejandro on in Valencia.

His footballing career began in the Amateur League with his hometown club Levante UD, where he rose in the 1997/98 season in the professional team. In the summer of 2000 he moved to his self-proclaimed favorite team, their city rivals and first division club FC Valencia.

His first season at the Estadio Mestalla was marked by great success. Vicente scored in 33 games in La Liga five goals and he also played 13 games for his club in the UEFA Champions League. In the final defeat against Bayern Munich, he sat but only on the bench. In the following season 2001/ 02 the young rider continued his winning streak. After Kily González had to struggle in the first half of the season with an injury, Vicente developed for regular players. In 2002 he won the championship with Valencia. 2002/ 03 he gained further experience in the Champions League, to Valencia was eliminated in the quarter-final against Inter Milan.

The big breakthrough came in the season 2003/04. He celebrated with his club at the end of the season, his greatest successes so far, the first place in the Spanish championship and winning the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup. In the final of the UEFA Cup, he scored the first goal and even prepared the winning goal from Mista. He scored 16 league goals this season, so he was the highest-scoring midfielder in the Spanish league. Beginning of the next season Vicente injured his left ankle and thus fell almost the entire season off. Stark spare weakened and with a new coach could retract his team this season only the 7th place in the championship and thus play only in the Intertoto Cup.

2004 Vicente extended a contract with Valencia until 2011. He could put away his long-term injury well and nearly reach his form of 2003/04 season. On 18 January 2006, Vicente injured in the game against CA Osasuna (2-0) after a shot on goal at the right ankle and then fell again for over half a year. Since then, Vicente has its form not found again, which is why he was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

2007 was another lost year for Vicente. After the problems were healed with the ankle, he had to contend with various muscular problems and was able to play only sporadically. This season has been in this status only slightly modified so that it continues normally only applied as a substitute for inserts.

For the 2010/11 season Vicente was nominated as captain, but got under coach Unai Emery still only sporadic inserts. However, multiple offers, especially from Russia, he refused, but instead toying with a move to Atletico Madrid, when it does not change his situation. In the second half was a partial suspension Vicente by the coach, as he was seen against five clock early in a bar, even though it was on the same day training. At the last home game of the season, he was officially adopted.

On September 2, 2011 Vicente signed a one-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion.

National

His first appearances in the Spanish Under-16 national team, which in 1998 was third at the European Championships, Vicente brought a lot of experience. While he was still extremely successful playing in the U21, he then gave his debut in the senior team. On 28 March 2001 he ran in a friendly against France (2-1) for the first time on there, but was not nominated for the FIFA World Cup 2002.

After missing the World Cup he came in the European Championship qualifiers, as Spain in Group 3 was behind Greece Second, in all eight games for use. His only goal was scored by Vicente in the play-off second-leg victory over Norway, moved by Spain in the finals. At Euro 2004, he was the best left midfielder and in outstanding condition. For the 2006 World Cup Vicente could not fit and had to stay at home. Since then, he is fighting for a return to the national team.

Overall, Vicente has played 38 games and scored 3 goals in the dress of the Spanish national team.
