Victor Borge

Victor Borge, civil Børge Rosenbaum ( born January 3, 1909 in Copenhagen, † December 23, 2000 in Greenwich, Connecticut ), was a Danish- American pianist and comedian.

Life

Børge Rosenbaum grew up in a Jewish family of musicians. His first piano concerto he was eight years old. In 1918, he received a full scholarship and studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory.

Later he was taught by Victor Schiøler, the pupil of Liszt, Frederic Lamond and Egon Petri the Busoni pupils; In 1926 he made ​​his debut. In the 1930s, he was one of the most popular Danish pianist.

However, the seriousness of the classical concert world did not like him. He, therefore, his appearances to expand humorous elements and parodies began. His jokes about Adolf Hitler, however, did not find the Danish audience very well received, with the German occupiers during World War II. Therefore, he had to emigrate to the USA in 1940, where he called himself Victor Borge.

Here, too, lost his performances not their comical. Soon he came on the radio, among others, Bing Crosby. In 1948 he became an American citizen. At the John Golden Theatre in New York, he had from 1953 to 1956 his one- man show Comedy in Music, which listed the longest one-man show ever. A quote from the " comedians at the piano " was: " A smile is the shortest distance between two people. "

Victor Borge played not only excellent piano, but also appeared as a conductor, including in opera performances. He founded several foundations and has received numerous prizes and awards.

His talents were not limited to music and comedy: The American model of the TV quiz show What am I? Borge presented itself as the chicken farmers. He operated in Connecticut, a poultry breeding under the name " ViBo Farms ".
