Viggo Fausböll

Michael Viggo Fausböll ( born September 22, 1821 in Lemvig, † June 3, 1908 in Charlottenlund, Gentofte municipality ) was a Danish Pali researchers.

From 1838 to 1847 Fausböll was a student and graduated with degree from a theological faculty from. During this time he also studied Sanskrit and Pali.

From 1878 to 1902 he was Professor of Indian Studies at the University of Copenhagen. In 1879, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the University, he was awarded an honorary doctorate there. From 1888 he was a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin. From 1890 he was a member of the Asiatic Society in London. His 1855 published version of the Dhammapada was the basis of the first translation of this work into English. This is part of the edited by Friedrich Max Müller series Sacred Books of the East.
