Viktor Novozhilov

Viktor Vladimirovich Nowoschilow (Russian Виктор Владимирович Новожилов; born June 5, 1950 in Leningrad, now St Petersburg, † 1991) was a Soviet wrestler. He was world champion and European champion in 1974 in the free style at middleweight.

Career

Viktor Nowoschilow, a member of the Soviet security forces, was a member of Dynamo Leningrad. His trainer W. Kornilov fashioned him at the beginning of the 1970s, one of the best freestyle wrestler in the world at middleweight. Before he came to his first stakes in international championships in 1974, he already proved itself in some tournaments and pocketed it a few victories. In those years he defeated for example, the top wrestler from East Germany Horst Stottmeister and Benno Paulitz and the Bulgarians Shukri Lutwiew - Akhmedov.

At the European Championships 1974 in Madrid, he joined in a great shape. Get him there for six victories, four were prematurely. He defeated among others Iorga, Vasile from Romania, Mehmet Uzun of Turkey and István Kovács from Hungary. Winning the European Championship title was well deserved. Equally strong he also wrestled at the World Championships the same year in Istanbul. Here he submitted five wins a World Championship title.

1975 defeated Viktor at the Soviet Championships against Vasily Sjulschin and came so this year either in the Europe and even in the World Cup for use. In the Olympic year 1976, he was able to prevail at the national level again and represented the Soviet Union, first at the European Championships in Leningrad. However, the super form of 1974, he had no more, for he lost only against the Bulgarians Ismail Abilow on points and against Adolf Seger from Germany even on shoulders and finished behind these wrestlers only the 3rd place. Nevertheless, Viktor Nowoschilow was also used at the Olympic Games in Montreal. He could here at least insofar rehabilitate that he this time against Adolf Seger and Ismail Abilow won on points and after a defeat against John Peterson from the USA won the silver medal.

From 1977 Viktor Nowoschilow could no longer prevail against Magomedchan Arazilow and Hassan Zangiew in the Soviet Union and therefore were no inserts in international championships more.
