Villard (Haute-Savoie)

Villard is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Villard is located on 806 m above sea level. M., about 23 km east of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is on the eastern edge of the valley increased slightly in Green Valley, at the western foot of the Pointe de Miribel, in the northwestern Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​7.42 km ² municipal area covers the central portion of the Vallée Verte. The northwestern boundary runs along the Menoge which drains the valley to the southwest of Arve. The Menoge here has a flat valley floor of about 300 to 500 m wide. From the river to the church floor extends eastward across the adjacent forested slopes and alpine meadows on the plateau of Plaine Joux and up to the Pointe de Miribel, on 1581 m above sea level. At Villard include various hamlet settlements, including Sèchemouille (781 m above sea level. M. ) and La Gruaz ( 792 m above sea level. M. ) on the valley floor and Le Bourgeau (845 m above sea level. M. ) and Les Crosats ( 934 m above sea level. M. ) on a slope above the village. Neighboring communities of Villard are Burdignin and Habère -Lullin in the north, and Mégevette Onnion in the east, the south and Bogève Boëge in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Villard belonged to the lords of Faucigny. With the Canton Boëge the village joined in 1939 by the District Bonneville for Arrondissement of Thonon- les- Bains.

Attractions

The village church in neo-classical style with an onion tower was built in the 18th century.

Population

With 757 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Villard is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. A continuous strong growth of the population since the early 1980s has been recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area. Outside the old town center created numerous houses.

Economy and infrastructure

Villard is a predominantly agricultural village today. In addition, there are several establishments of local small businesses. Some of the working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The village lies along the road that leads from Thonon -les- Bains on the Col de Cou after Fillinges in the Arve Valley. Further road links exist with Burdignin and Viuz -en- Sallaz.
