Onnion

Onnion is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Onnion is located on 791 m above sea level. M., about 23 km south of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village extends Faucigny, on sun-exposed south-facing slope of a valley of the Vallée du cracks, at the eastern foot of the Massif des Brasses, in the Savoy Alps.

History

The territory of Onnion was inhabited in prehistoric times and during the Bronze Age, which could be detected by various finds. The place name comes from the Celtic word oun (ash). In the Middle Ages Onnion belonged to the field of rule Faucigny.

Population

With 1220 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Onnion one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. After the population had decreased markedly during the 20th century (1901 Onnion still counted 830 inhabitants), was again noted a significant increase in population since the mid-1970s thanks to the beautiful residential area.

Economy and infrastructure
