The Rajongemeinde Vilnius ( Lithuanian: Vilniaus rajono savivaldybė ) is one of the largest among the 60 self-governing communities of Lithuania. It surrounds the city municipality Vilnius and thus the Lithuanian capital to more than 4/5.
Population
Covering an area of 2129.15 km ² 96 484 people live. Between the world wars, the area belonged to Poland. Even today, the Polish minority in Lithuania in the region, the majority of the population. In 2002, expenditure of time not quite 90,000 inhabitants, 61.3 % Polish nationality as to, compared to only 22.4% who identified themselves as Lithuanians. Other minorities in the region are Russians (8.4%), Belarusians (4.4%) and Ukrainians ( 3.5%).
