Vintersorg

Vintersorg is a Swedish folk and progressive metal band that was founded in 1994, at that time still under the name Vargatron ( Wolf Throne ' ) founded. After several line-up changes in 1996 Andreas Hedlund finally the sole member of Vargatron and decided to rename the project in Vintersorg. Their music combines metal with acoustic guitars and clean vocals, further are finding many elements from the folklore.

The name Vintersorg comes from a character from the book Isfolket (, The Eisvolk ') by Margit Sandemo in which Vintersorg is the son of a pagan chieftain. Roughly translated, it would ' mean winter sadness.

Style and concept

The first albums are mostly written in Swedish and act largely by Mother Nature, mythology, myths and legends, also he uses frequently the voice of Cia Hedmark, which was at that time a singer and violinist with Otyg.

From the album Cosmic Genesis the lyrics were mostly held in English and acted now the cosmos and space instead of forests and mountains. The use of female vocals, as on earlier albums, there is not more from Cosmic Genesis. The music Vintersorgs addition gets a significantly more progressive painting that since The Focusing Blur supporting element was placed. From the earlier folk metal and black metal influences is only a little to hear the album can be assigned to the more progressive metal. In addition, the former solo project got from Cosmic Genesis growth: After Andreas Hedlund disbanded his former folk-metal group Otyg, also the former guitarist of Otyg, Mattias Marklund joined to Vintersorg. As a session musician Visions from the spiral generator DiGeorgio Steve (bass) and Asgeir Mickelson ( drums ) at Vintersorg have been active for the album.

The 2007 released album Solens Rötter waived in part to the progressive, futuristic elements as they were introduced mainly by the keyboard on the previous two albums, and is dedicated to more back to the old style, with the band not completely back fresh ideas and, for example, the guitar riffs remain progressive. Musically, it is a fusion of Nordic folklore and epic Black Metal influences. Side projects

Andreas Hedlund is active in addition to Vintersorg in other bands. Firstly, since 2001 he is a regular singer at Borknagar, on the other hand he lends to the progressive metal project Fission by drummer Benny Hägglund his voice. The end of 2005 he founded the still " musical hybrids " Cronian and launched another solo project Waterclime which musical is based on the old ( progressive ) rock classics.
