Vishnuvardhan (actor)

Vishnuvardhan ( Kannada: ವಿಷ್ಣುವರ್ಧನ್; Birth Name: Sampath Kumar, born September 18, 1950 in Mysore, Karnataka, † December 30, 2009 ) was an Indian actor. He was next to Ambareesh and Rajkumar of the leading male actors of Kannada film of the 1970s and 80s.

Biography

Vishnuvardhan made ​​his film debut in 1971 with a supporting role in Vamsha Vriksha by Girish Karnad and BV Karanth. Already in his second film, the film drama Nagara Haavu ( 1972) by SR Puttanna Kanagal, Vishnuvardhan played the leading role alongside the actress Arathi. Other important roles he played, among others, in Boothayyana Maga Ayyu (1974 ), the children's film Nagarhole (1977 ), Sahasa Simha (1982 ), Jeevana Chakra (1985 ), Malaya Maruthua (1986). Frequently he performed under the direction of SV Rajendra Singh, as an officer in the war film Muthina Hara (1990 ) with Suhasini as his wife. In 1991, he had in the Ramsay Brothers film Inspector Dhanush making his first appearance in a Hindi movie; he also played in a few Tamil films including Alaigal (1973 ) by CV Sridhar and Mazhalai Pattalam (1980).

Vishnuvardhan acted in about 200 films. Its popularity he used also for public institutions, and welfare activities of the film industry. For his acting achievements, he was awarded seven Filmfare Awards South and numerous state awards received next. Him an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University was awarded in 2005.

After announcement of his death due to a heart attack, there were riots in Karnataka and the security measures at his residence were increased by the police to regulate the rush of fans. The Chief Minister of Karnataka state BS Yeddyurappa ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in Karnataka on the day of Vishnuvardhans after death.
