Vitória da Conquista is a Brazilian city in the middle south of the state of Bahia. The population was on 1 August 2008, according to IBGE 313 898. The area covers 3204 km ² ( 90.4 inhabitants / km ²) at an average altitude of 923 m.

Economy

Until the 1940s, animal husbandry was the economic basis. With road connections between the states of Rio and Bahia (today: BR- 116) and the route Ilheus - Lapa were created conditions for a structural change. The marketing of coffee from the region, including neighboring cities such as Barra do Choça, Planalto and Poções was relieved and from the 1980s, Vitória developed increasingly to a service center. Several universities have branches in the city.

Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista

Vitória is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista. It is since 2008 headed by Archbishop Luís Gonzaga Silva Pepeu.
