Vladimir Breitchev

Vladimir Breitschew ( Bulgarian Владимир Брейчев; born December 16, 1958 in Samokov ) is a former Bulgarian ski jumper.

Breitschew launched in 1977 at the annual Four Hills Tournament. He announced on December 30, 1979 made ​​his debut in the World Cup Ski Jumping. In his first World Cup competition outside of the tour, he won in Harrachov on January 14, 1984 No. 13 his first World Cup points.

At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo Breitschew jumped on the normal hill on the 19th Place and on the large hill on the 42nd place.

After the games Breitschew remained again without good rankings and missed in every jumping the points clear. Also at the World Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol and 1987 in Oberstdorf, he was unsuccessful.

As part of the Four Hills Tournament 1987/88 he was again able to win two World Cup points in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. At the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988 he was again included in the squad of the Bulgarians and jumped on the normal hill on the 53rd and on the large hill to the 46th place. It then took until January 22, 1989, until he was able to jump to a position in the points again in Oberhof. When shortly afterwards held Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 in Lahti he reached on the normal hill and 50th in the large hill 32nd. At the start of the World Cup season 1989/90 he was able to achieve his best result so far with an 8th place in Thunder Bay. In the following jumping he was able to achieve consistent performance and jumped several times in the points. End of the season he reached in Planica the best result of his career and jumped on the large hill on the 7th Place. He finished the season in 34th place in the overall World Cup standings.

In the following two seasons, he could not build on the successes of the 1989/90 season. Breitschew ended his ski jumping career at the age of 33 years with the launch at the Olympic Winter Games in Albertville in 1992. He jumped again when jumping from the large hill on the 50th and on the normal hill on the 46th place.

Breitschew is the only Bulgarian ski jumper who competed three times at the Olympic Winter Games.
