Vladimir Ossipoff

Vladimir " Val " Ossipoff ( born November 25, 1907 in Vladivostok, Russia, † October 1, 1998 in Honolulu, Hawaii ) was an American architect.

Life

Vladimir Ossipoff, son of the Russian military attaché in Tokyo emigrated in 1923 to the USA. After studying architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1931 he opened his own studio in Hawaii.

He was regarded with more than 1,000 completed projects as the authoritative representative of modernism in Hawaii and the Pacific. He was, among other things honored by the American Institute of Architects.

Extensive retrospectives were shown at the Honolulu Academy of Arts ( 2007), and at the Yale School of Architecture in New Haven ( Connecticut ) (2008 ) and at the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt am Main ( 2009).
