As a professor, he taught both at his old Hochule and at the Ordzhonikidze Institute and the Zhukovsky Academy.

Wettschinkin stood out particularly as an applied mathematician. He calculated and solved problems of strength of aircraft structures, particularly of the air screw and cell. Because of his work, the limits of the load factor of aircraft could be calculated in advance and so be directly integrated into the design.

His major publications were in 1927 and 1933 dynamics of the flight dynamics of the aircraft. Moreover, it also published in other areas, such as navigation, ballistics and jet aircraft. From 1956 to 1959 his collected works in a Moscow publishing house published in two volumes in Russian.
