Volchansk tram system

The tram Volchansk was opened on December 31, 1951 and connects the local situation of the Siberian city of Volchansk ( Sverdlovsk Oblast ) and the district Lesnaja Woltschanka. The tram runs on a track width of 1524 millimeters ( Russian broad gauge ) and consists of a single about seven kilometer circuit. This is single track and has the character of an interurban tram.

In 1953, an approximately 16 -kilometer route was opened after Karpinsk. This overland route was decommissioned in 1967 and converted to buses. Was built the tram around the settlement Volchansk, the workers' settlement of the nearby lignite - surface mining is used to connect to the nearest train station in Lesnaya Woltschanka. The population of the city dropped from originally 36,000 citizens during the wedding of coal mining on first 14900 in 1989 and declined further to about 10,000 inhabitants. This was accompanied by a significant drop in traffic tram.

Operation

There are no more Dodge, which is why the route is only served in regular operation from a course every hour. However, there is an operating since May 2010 rest 10 to 16 clock. Of the 12 stops along the route will be operated seven runs regularly, all others are request stops. In 2008 there were a total of five trams of different types. These include two vehicles of the KTM - 5M3 ( 71- 605A ), a KTM -8M, a KTM 19 and a Spektr 71-402. The KTM -8M came in 2001 after Volchansk, but suffered in 2004 irreperablen damage, though from now on is available, but has since then no longer used. All vehicles receive power via Lyrabügeln from the catenary performed consistently as a single catenary. At the western entrance to the village of Lesnaya Woltschanka the tram route crosses a siding of a wood-processing plant at the same level.

The depot is located on the southern outskirts of Volchansk in the turnaround loop the track. In terms of the population of 9900 in 2010 is considered as the smallest city in Russia Woltschank with its own tram service.
