Karpinsk

Karpinsk (Russian Карпинск; until 1941 Bogoslowsk ( Богословск ) is a town with 29,113 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia).

Geography

Karpinsk is located in the north of Sverdlovsk Oblast on Sos'va inflow Turja, 80 km east of the Ural Mountains and 436 km north of the regional capital Yekaterinburg. Just east of Karpinsk adjacent to the city Krasnoturjinsk; another nearby town Volchansk 18 km north.

History

Karpinsk was created in 1759 as a settlement, which was part of a metallurgical plant at the same time founded in 1770 and finished. This especially processed the rich copper ore mined nearby and counted in the 18th century the leading companies in the metal industry in the Urals. From 1945 to 1949 existed near Karpinsk a labor camp for Russia German and German civilians who had been deported primarily from East Prussia and Pomerania as forced laborers here. There were men and women between 15 and 65 years. The able-bodied among them had in coal mining (deep, lumpy brown coal), housing, road construction or in the quarry, partially also work as craftsmen in various establishments.
